GPS tracker with a live map in the browser
A small device placed in a car or bag that finds its position by satellite and sends it, so you can follow it on a live map from any browser with the full trip path. It runs on a battery for hours.
The problem
Commercial trackers need a monthly subscription and a closed app, and data is sent to a company server of unknown location. To track something simple like a bike, a shipment, or a trip, the user ends up paying a yearly subscription for a service used once a month.
How it works
- ReceivingThe GPS module receives satellite signals and extracts the coordinates.
- ReadingThe controller reads the data and checks the signal is valid.
- UploadThe location is sent over Wi-Fi at set intervals.
- DisplayA web page draws the location and route on a map.

Expected challenges

- The battery is the biggest limitation, since GPS and Wi-Fi both use a lot of power.
- Coverage gaps leave holes in the route, so local storage and later sending are needed.
