Geofencing tracker bracelet for children and the elderly
A bracelet worn by a child or patient; family members draw a safe zone on the map such as home, school, or a park, and get an instant alert with the location as soon as they leave it. It also has an SOS button that sends the location with one press.
The problem
An Alzheimer's patient may leave home and get lost, and a child may wander away from their family at the market, and the family only finds out late. Commercial devices need a monthly subscription, and most only show the location without an automatic alert when the person leaves the safe zone.
How it works
- DefiningThe safe zone is drawn on the map and then loaded onto the device.
- ReadingThe GPS module reads the location at set intervals.
- ComparisonThe device calculates whether the location is inside or outside the zone.
- AlertsLeaving the zone or pressing the SOS button sends an alert with the location.

Expected challenges
These are the main obstacles to expect during the build, laid out clearly so you know them before you start.
- The battery is the first limitation: running GPS and Wi-Fi together drains it within hours, so sleeping between readings is essential.
- GPS accuracy fluctuates within several meters, so the fence needs a margin, or false alarms occur.
- The signal is lost indoors, so the device must tell leaving the zone from losing the signal.
- The device must be comfortable in size and weight, or the user won't wear it.
