Heart monitoring with ECG
The device reads the heart's electrical signal and heart rate continuously, compares the signal shape with the normal pattern, and sends an alert at any deviation.
The problem
Heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide, and one of its most dangerous aspects is that warning signs can appear hours or days before an attack with no measurement running at that moment. An ECG in the clinic lasts only a few minutes, while the disturbance can appear at any other time. Continuous monitoring increases the chance of catching the signal before it becomes an emergency.
How it works
- ReadingAdhesive electrodes on the chest pick up the heart's electrical signal.
- FilteringThe module amplifies the signal and removes electrical noise from it.
- AnalysisThe controller extracts the heart rate and compares the signal's shape with the normal pattern.
- Setting limitsThe user sets the acceptable upper and lower heart-rate limits.
- AlertsA reading outside the limits triggers a local alarm and an online alert.
- LoggingAll readings are saved in a timeline the doctor can review.
Project features
- A real ECG reading, not just beat counting, which clearly raises the project's level.
- The timeline lets the doctor see the overall pattern, not just one moment.
- Custom limits for each patient instead of one fixed value for everyone.
- An impressive live demo: attach the electrodes and the curve appears moving.
- It can be combined with the vital-signs project to form a complete system.

Expected challenges
These are the main obstacles to expect during the build, laid out clearly so you know them before you start.
- The heavy noise in the ECG signal is the project's hardest technical part.
- The quality of the electrodes' contact with the skin determines the whole signal quality.
- Patient movement causes false readings that look like a disturbance.
- Telling a real disturbance from noise requires careful filtering.
- Health data is sensitive and requires protection and access control.
The consultation gives you a solution for each one.
Expected committee questions
Prepare your answers in advance: these questions come up often in defenses of similar projects.
- How is noise removed from the ECG signal, and which filters are used?
- How is an irregular heartbeat detected from the signal's shape?
- How does the device differ from a medical ECG machine in the number of electrodes and accuracy?
- How is the patient's electrical safety ensured while connected to the device?
