Assistant that answers university regulation questions from the official bylaws
Students ask in Arabic, e.g. “what's the absence limit?” or “what are the conditions to postpone a semester?”, and the assistant answers from the official regulation texts with the article and page number for each answer, preventing made-up information and allowing verification.
The problem
Academic regulations are published in long PDFs nobody reads, so students turn to classmates and may get wrong information that costs them a semester. Registration staff also answer the same ten questions every day.
How it works
- CollectionCollecting the official regulations and documenting each document's source.

Expected challenges
These are the main obstacles to expect during the build, laid out clearly so you know them before you start.
- Arabic processing is hard: diacritics, hamzas, and attached pronouns break matching.
- Chunk size decides result quality: small chunks cut the meaning, large ones reduce precision.
- Regulations change every year, requiring an update mechanism, or answers become dangerously wrong.
- Building the reference evaluation set by hand is the most labor-intensive part of the project.
