Safety helmet and tracking for quarry workers
A helmet that sends the worker's location on site, monitors gases and ambient temperature, and has an SOS button that sends an instant alert to the control room.
The problem
In quarries and mines, the biggest danger isn't the accident itself but not knowing where it happened: a worker may pass out from gas or be trapped under a collapse, and the team on the surface only learns where when they're missed at the end of the shift. Jordan has many phosphate and stone quarries, most relying on manual counting at entry and exit. Live tracking cuts the search from hours to minutes.
How it works
- TrackingWireless nodes spread across the site pick up each worker's helmet signal and estimate their position.
- Environmental monitoringSensors in the helmet measure toxic gases, temperature, and humidity.
- Fall detectionThe accelerometer detects a worker falling or staying motionless for a long time.
- SOS buttonOne press sends an instant emergency report with the location.
- Control roomThe dashboard shows a site map with every worker and their live status.
- LoggingEvery reading is saved to analyze recurring danger zones on site.
Project features
- Worker safety is a topic with ethical and legal weight, highly valued by committees.
- It combines wireless networks, environmental sensors, and tracking in one project.
- It serves an existing local sector in Jordan: phosphate and stone quarries.
- Three independent alarm layers: gas, falls, and the manual button.
- It can expand to construction sites and factories with the same architecture.

Expected challenges
These are the main obstacles to expect during the build, laid out clearly so you know them before you start.
- Estimating position indoors without GPS: wireless signal accuracy is limited and affected by rock.
- The battery must last a full shift without recharging.
- The unit's weight and balance: a worker won't wear a heavy helmet.
- Calibrating gas sensors, whose sensitivity is affected by humidity and dust.
- A robust enclosure against dust and impacts in a harsh work environment.
The consultation gives you a solution for each one.
Expected committee questions
Prepare your answers in advance: these questions come up often in defenses of similar projects.
- How is a worker's location found in a place without a clear GPS signal, like a quarry?
- Which gases does the system measure, and why are they dangerous in quarries specifically?
- How do you balance the helmet's weight against battery life?
- How does the signal reach the control room over long distances?
