Smart greenhouse with automatic irrigation and ventilation
A unit that monitors air temperature and humidity, soil moisture, and light inside the greenhouse, and runs irrigation and ventilation automatically when readings leave the set limits. The farmer follows all the data from their phone and can take over manually at any time.
The problem
A greenhouse can suffer a big loss in a single day: two hours of excess heat can ruin the crop, and overwatering rots the roots. The farmer can't stay by the greenhouse around the clock, so they water by habit rather than need, wasting water and losing part of the crop at the same time.
How it works
- MeasurementMeasuring soil moisture in three zones, plus air temperature, humidity, and light.
- DecisionEach reading is compared with a limit set for the crop being grown, not a generic value.
- ExecutionThe irrigation pump runs only for the dry zone, and the fan runs when temperature or humidity rises.
- FollowingReadings and commands go to the phone, and the farmer can step in.
Project features
- An automatic decision for each zone, instead of watering the whole greenhouse the same way.
- It tells dry soil from dry air, since each needs a different fix.
- A daily log reveals the hours when the problem actually happens.
- Manual control from the phone overrides automatic mode when needed.

Expected challenges
These are the main obstacles to expect during the build, laid out clearly so you know them before you start.
- A resistive soil sensor corrodes within weeks, while a capacitive one lasts much longer.
- The pump and fan create electrical spikes that reset the controller, so isolation is needed.
- The moisture threshold calibration differs from soil to soil and must be set on site.
- High humidity inside the greenhouse affects the electronics unless they're in a sealed enclosure.
The consultation gives you a solution for each one.
